BARRIERS FOR ACQUISITION OF COMPUTER SKILL IN ISIN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KWARA STATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Abstract
This study investigated the obstacles to acquiring computer skills in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State secondary schools. A sample of 300 students was randomly chosen from six secondary schools in the area, and data were gathered through questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using simple percentages, and hypotheses were tested using the chi-square tool. The study revealed that financial constraints, a lack of trained personnel, inadequate ICT facilities, and public nepotism were significant barriers to computer education acquisition. The researchers recommend that the government should supply modern ICT equipment to secondary schools in Isin LGA and employ a sufficient number of computer professionals/graduates to teach Computer Studies in secondary schools.
