Abstract

This paper investigates the prevalence, causes and patterns of armed robbery in Oyo State, Nigeria, with a focus on Ibadan metropolis. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of survey data with qualitative insights from interviews with residents, business owners and law enforcement agents. These factors include unemployment, poverty, inequality and social disorganization. The study assesses the effectiveness of current anti-armed robbery measures and highlights challenges in law enforcement capacity and community engagement. It concludes by proposing evidence-based strategies for improving crime prevention, enhancing security responses fostering socio-economic development to address the root causes of armed robbery in Oyo State.
