STRATEGIC PLANNING IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS IN THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY
Abstract
Oil and gas companies seek environmental management and regulatory compliance experts to drive their strategic plans. Their strategy formulation is to ensure their activities align with global green initiatives, greenhouse gas reduction, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and climate change. These critical areas, if adequately addressed, can improve their environmental performance. This study evaluates the strategic planning in environmental and regulatory affairs in the oil and gas industry. The study adopts qualitative research method by reviewing reliable journals from verifiable sources. This review reveals that projects can be modelled in phases through strategic planning to achieve the desired environmental quality goals, especially in sensitive terrains where biodiversity interference may occur. With increasing awareness of transit to renewable options, reducing methane and end gas flaring, companies are improving their environmental innovation capabilities to minimise the negative effect of global warming. In conclusion, redesigning processes, though time-consuming and at higher costs, will lead to reduced environmental footprints of oil and gas facilities and possible achievement of sustainable development goals.
