IMO STATE AGENCY FOR COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT
A STUDY OF ORLU LGA, IMO STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This work focused on Imo State agency for community and social development project and rural development in Orlu LGA, Imo State, Nigeria. The theories used are theory of Environmentally Responsible Behavior (ERB) and the people centered theory. Descriptive survey was applied and data were collected through questionnaire. The population of the study is 350 town union representatives from 35 autonomous communities in Orlu LGA. The population was also used as sample since census enumeration method was used. Data analysis was done using percentage, mean and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) at 0.05 level of significance with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 21.0). it was discovered that there is no significant relationship between CSDP market rehabilitation and income rate of the citizens in Orlu LGA (with a mean score of 2.3); and there is significant relationship between CSDP road rehabilitation and market accessibility in Orlu LGA (with a mean score of 3.4). Based on the forgoing, this study concludes that the extent of sustainable development goals achievement in the areas of schools rehabilitation, health intervention, road rehabilitation and market rehabilitation depends on the effectiveness of Imo State agency for community and social development project. The work recommends that the CSDP should pay great attention to market rehabilitation and establishments of more daily markets so as to improve the economic good of the people. Also, rural road construction and maintenance should be in the top agenda of the CSDP so that to make many community roads accessible for improved socio-economic development.
