Abstract

The study investigated the Influence of Monitoring and Evaluation strategies on teaching and learning of Science subjects at Secondary Schools in Dutsinma Zonal Education Quality Assurance, Katsina state, Nigeria. The study developed two research objectives, answered two research questions and tested two null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study used Descriptive survey research design. The target population for the study covered 248 respondents comprises of 196 science teachers, 19 Principal, 26 Vice Principal and 7 ZEQAO in the study area. A total sample size of 248 was used comprises of Principal, Vice Principal and Science Teachers at Senior Secondary schools in Dutsinma zonal education Quality assurance were selected using total population sampling. a self- structured questionnaire tagged Assessment of Monitoring and Evaluation Strategies on Teaching and Learning Questionnaire (AMESTLQ) was used as instrument for collection of data. Research questions were answered descriptively using means and standard deviations while null hypotheses were tested inferentially using ANOVA. Findings of the study The study revealed that monitoring and evaluation strategies has great influence on teaching and learning of science subjects at Secondary Schools in Dutsinma zonal Education Quality assurance. Based on the findings of this study the recommendations have been proffered for effective Monitoring and Evaluation Strategies on Teaching and Learning of Science subjects at secondary schools in Dutsinma zonal education quality assurance Zonal Quality Assurance Officers, Principals of schools should intensify on continues appraisal of schools system through regular supervision of school activities and prompt submission of their reports to appropriate authority also there should be frequent assessment of school records by Zonal Quality Assurance Officers and Principals for quality teaching and learning of Science subjects at secondary schools in Dutsinma zonal education quality assurance through school supervision, inspection and monitoring.
