INFORMATION ETHICS AND COPYRIGHT ISSUES IN LIBRARY SERVICES IN NIGERIA
Abstract
The information environment has undergone significant change due to digital technology, which has raised significant ethical and legal concerns in library contexts. This essay examines how copyright concerns and information ethics interact in a library setting. It demonstrates the need of upholding intellectual property rights, advancing equitable access to information, and supporting moral information practices. We go over the primary copyright concerns that arise in library environments, such as digital rights management, license agreements, and fair use. We also examine the role of copyright and information ethics in libraries, including digital collections, intellectual freedom, access and equity, and information literacy.The study also examines the similarities and differences between information ethics and copyright issues, as well as their function in reference services. Additionally, we discover that copyright and information ethics challenges in library settings necessitate a multifaceted strategy that strikes a balance between legal obligations, ethical considerations, and the advancement of information access. In order to stay up to date with evolving technology and legal information structures, libraries must also continuously train their employees and users on copyright laws, fair use, and the ethics of responsible information usage.
