BUREAUCRACY AND SERVICE DELIVERY IN THE NIGERIA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
A STUDY OF THE SENATE DIRECTORATE, 2015-2019
Abstract
This study examines the effectiveness and challenges faced by the Senate Directorate of Nigeria’s National Assembly in service delivery from 2015 to 2023. Utilizing a survey of 51 respondents, the research analyzes various dimensions of bureaucratic efficiency, including organizational structure, decision-making processes, communication channels, resource allocation, and the use of technology. Key findings reveal a generally positive perception of the hierarchical structure but highlight significant concerns regarding the transparency and inclusiveness of decision-making, the efficiency of communication channels, and the management of resources. Respondents also expressed strong concerns about technological limitations, operational inefficiencies, and gaps in transparency and accountability. Notably, there is unanimous agreement on the need for enhanced training and capacity-building programs, improved technological infrastructure, and the implementation of robust performance monitoring systems. The study underscores the importance of addressing these issues to improve service delivery within the Senate Directorate and foster greater stakeholder trust and satisfaction.
