TEACHERS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS USING ICT AS AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL IN PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN MISAU L.G.A, BAUCHI STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

Education for over two decades has taken a new turn to improve the way instructions are passed to students. Educational improvement has seen the introduction of so many Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools in education, for which teachers were trained, while some develop themselves to be able to use these tools in the classroom as an educational tool. The study is on teachers’ attitudes towards using ICT as educational tools in Misau L.G.A of Bauchi State, Nigeria. Three objectives and research questions were formulated for the study. The significance of this study is solely focused on probing the Misau L.G.A. secondary school teachers’ attitude towards using ICT. This study also looked into the beliefs that concern teachers by using ICT as an educational tool and also their attitudes based on factors such as beliefs and experience level. The population of the study comprises of 2000 teachers and data was gathered from 200 participants via use of questionnaires and also interview questions both written and recorded. Analysis was carried out on gathered data using ANOVA, t-test, standard deviations and percentages. Significant differences were also conducted on the variable factors based on the demographic characteristics of each participant. The findings from this study shows the attitudes of Misau secondary school teachers hold towards ICT usage as an educational tool in the classroom were on a high scale and there were significant differences on their attitudes on using ICT as an educational tool based on experience level, and their beliefs.
