EXPLORING THE ROLE OF TEACHERS AS CATALYSTS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE IN A DYNAMIC SOCIETY
Abstract
This study investigates the role of teachers in catalyzing social change and promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and civic engagement among students in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was employed, with a sample of 1200 participants, including teachers, students, parents, and education stakeholders. The findings reveal that teacher professional development, innovative teaching strategies, teacher-student relationships, and parents' involvement in education are significant predictors of social change and civic engagement. The study recommends prioritizing teacher education and professional development, innovative teaching strategies, and community involvement in education to empower teachers to catalyze social change.
