ASSESSMENT OF ICT COMPETANCY LEVEL AMONG ACADEMIC STAFF IN KATAGUM ZONAL EDUCATION OF BAUCHI STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study, which looked at ICT usage and ICT competency evaluation among secondary school academic staff, used a survey research approach. A systematic questionnaire was created, verified, and utilized to gather data from a sample size of 66 secondary school academic staff. Five research questions were offered as the study's guiding principles. Descriptive statistics were used to assess the acquired data. The findings indicate that the majority of secondary school academic staff paid for their own ICT training, that most do not own personal or office computers, that the majority only had access to the internet at public cybercafés, and that the majority assessed their ICT proficiency as low. Academic staff in secondary schools highlighted inadequate ICT facilities, an excessive workload, and insufficient finance as the three main obstacles to ICT use. The state government should financially support ICT training for secondary school academic staff, and all secondary school academic staff should be required to participate.
